Leica CRF 1200

Cumulative Review Score: 96(131)Discontinued

Useful reviews of the Leica CRF 1200 were plentiful.  The single most mentioned aspect of this rangefinder was its ability to measure objects at extreme distances, many users reported ranging reflective objects in excess of 1200 yards.  The second most mentioned feature was the clarity of the optics.  Other features that received high praise in mass quantity were its: compact size, light weight, accuracy, red led display, 7x magnification, ease of use and fast ranging time.  From a review point these were probably the most useful for any rangefinder LRR has reviewed so far; most of the users had previously owned rangefinders before and many had did side by side comparisons with other model rangefinders.  While none of the users thought that these units were cheap most everyone of the reviewers felt the Leica CRF 1200 was worth the price.  While a few reviewers mentioned bow hunting the fast majority of purchasers seemed to be using the Leica Rangemaster 1200 for rifle hunting purposes.  This is probably because of the units 7x magnification and lack of an angle compensation feature.

Owner’s Manual:
Not a lot of noteworthy stuff in the manual, which might be why people find it so easy to use, it does has a scan capability but does not have a targeting or angle compensation mode.  Probably the most noteworthy thing here is that these units are sold in either meter or yard versions.  So if you want the yard version make sure it is the right one, there is no ability to switch between yards and meters with the CRF 1200.

LRR Thoughts:
The Leica CRF 1200 received high praise from an extremely large amount of useful reviews. This is probably a good time to remind you that the Laser

Rangefinder Review’s Cumulative Review Score does take value into account, so the CRF 1200 score of 96 does account for its $600 dollar cost.  So basically that means that purchasers of this unit realize it is expensive, and think that it is worth it; this is a high vote of confidence for the Leica CRF 1200 rangefinder.  This is no doubt a fine piece of hunting equipment and realistically it is probably a step up from most rangefinders sold today.  The best use of this rangefinder is probably for the serious big game rifle hunter that has to have an accurate, lightweight rangefinder that will read targets at most any range without difficulty.  The Leica CRF 1200 is our current top rated rifle hunting rangefinder. Update: The CRF 1200 is no longer listed on the Leica website and appears to have been discontinued. Those looking for a similar model should consider the new Leica CRF 1000 which is a nearly identical to the CRF 1200 except it has a maximum range of 1000 yards instead of 1200 yards; however; the new CRF 1000 lets the operator choose between either meters or yards. Others might consider the new Leica CRF 1600 which has more range as well as the ability to calculate holdover on shots out to 500m, the trade off being it is a couple hundred dollars more than the CRF 1000. See how the new CRF 1600 and CRF 1000 measure up to the other entries in the rifle hunting rangefinder category.
