Owner’s Manual Highlights:
The Nikon Archer’s Choice is also listed on the Nikon RifleHunter 550 instruction manual. Although there are a few important differences between the two, the first difference is that the RifleHunter 550 ranges targets from 11 yards to 550 yards, while the Archer’s Choice ranges objects from 5 yards to 100 yards. The second difference is the Acher's Choice is set in "First" target priority mode while the RifleHunter 550 allows you to select "First" or "Distant" target priority. Many of the reviewers had considered the Archer’s Choice model but most decided that spending a little more money for the RifleHunter version would allow them to use the rangefinder for both archery and rifle season. This RifleHunter 550 aslo features Nikon’s ID (Incline/Decline) technology, a scan mode, and measures distance in .2 yard increments while in ID mode out to 100 yards, after which it reports distance in 1 yard increments. The device also has a rubber eyepiece cup that can be rolled up to accommodate users who wear glasses.
LRR Thoughts:
If you are looking for a good all around rangefinder with an angle compensation feature that will work well for both archery and rifle hunting the Nikon RifleHunter 550 rangefinder is a great choice especially when you factor in its under $300 dollar price tag and proven design. Its 6x magnification provides enough power for ranging distant targets when hunting with a long gun and enough field of view to see and range game up close when hunting with a bow. The RifleHunter 550 is our current top rated scoring dual purpose rangefinder and is a great choice to take into the field whether you have a gun or bow in your hand.
